Recent Newborn Kit Service Project/Quarterly RS Activity!

Thanks to everyone who contributed items and for those who came out to assemble newborn kits and sew blankets! We had a great turn out! The nurses at Einstein Hospital in East Norriton were very appreciative of our donation, and the kits we provided will bless the lives of women and families in need. We also used this activity as an opportunity to celebrate the Relief Society birthday!

Here are some pictures from the activity (thanks to Marie!):

And the final product:

Two bins full of baby clothes!! We ended up with 65 completed sets and have about 20 outfits leftover that we will use for kits in the future!! We hope to continue this type of service project so that we can reach out and support families in the surrounding communities! Thanks again for your service-- we couldn't do it without you!!

Car-Pool to the May 17 Multi-Stake Women's Fireside

This coming Saturday we have the opportunity to attend a wonderful Multi-Stake Women's Fireside. The Fireside is open to all sisters aged 12 and up from 10 stakes (or approximately 90 wards/branches), so you can imagine that parking is going to be a challenge. To prevent fist-fights over parking spaces, the Stake has asked us to carpool.
Vermena Lee is coordinating the carpooling from Valley Forge 1st Ward. She asks that anyone who is interested contact her to let her know if 1.) You need a ride or would like to carpool, and 2.) Willing to drive and how many you can bring in your car. Please respond back to me by Friday. We will meet at the church at 5:15 p.m. and leave at 5:30 p.m. for the stake center.
Please take this opportunity to carpool with your sisters. Our Relief Society budget does not have enough money set aside for bail should you be arrested for disorderly conduct in a parking lot brawl.

Frozen Cookie Dough Fundraiser

It’s the time of year when birds are nesting, grass is growing, ticks are . . . ticking, or whatever they do, and the Valley Forge 1st Ward Young Women are having their annual frozen cookie dough sale to raise funds to help defray the cost of attending Girls Camp.

Frozen cookie dough can be a real time saver when you need a quick treat for an activity or a way to calm the starving hordes at home. Zombies are repelled by the sight of frozen cookie dough, making it an ideal non-violent way to save yourself and your family from the walking dead. And don't forget - frozen cookie dough is Olaf's favorite food!

Dough choices include oatmeal, peanut butter, and chocolate chip. Each frozen roll costs $8.00, and will make 3 dozen cookies (depending, of course, on how thick you slice your cookie dough, and how much you eat frozen before the dough hits the cookie sheet). Sign-up sheets are going around, or just talk to one of the young women and get yourself on the list.
Your family's future safety may depend on a humble log of cookie dough in your freezer. Don't take chances - order one (or more) today.

Newborn Kit Service Activity - May 13 - Sleeper Sale!

Walmart is selling baby sleepers at $4.97 this week - just in time for purchasing for the Newborn Kit service activity on May 13th! Remember to bring your contributions on Sunday or the night of the activity. See you there!

May 2014 Visiting Teaching Changes

In May 2014, new VF 1 visiting teaching assignments were distributed. In an effort to make important information available in as many places as possible, we are posting the new VT assignments on the blog so that anyone who is unsure can check who they visit teach ("Visiting Teaching Sisters") and track down their own visiting teachers, who are listed next to your name, ex. “Marie Tiller: Sarah Kinghorn & Tobe Adewole”

At the end of each month you need to get in touch with your district leader to let them know who you contacted, and any special needs or situations that may exist.

Some Basic Tips for Visiting Teaching:

Please remember that developing relationships is very important. Texting and email are good ways to keep in touch with your sisters, but only AFTER you’ve established a relationship with them. Don’t let the pendulum swing too far in the other direction.

Please consider each other’s needs. Group visiting teaching lunches or get-togethers have their place, but using them each month for convenience is not appropriate. Each sister needs the nourishment that individual attention provides. Likewise, visiting teachers need latitude in getting their teaching accomplished, and the occasional group visiting teaching may be accommodated.

Encourage each other! If you haven’t seen your visiting teachers, tell them you miss them. Make yourself available to your visiting teachers. I hear a lot of frustrated comments like “She never has time for me to visit.” "I can't get in touch with her. She never answers the phone (or texts, or emails, etc.)" or “I don’t know who my visiting teachers are. I get a text from So-and-So once in a while. I don’t know why.”

Sisters, the most common heart-ache I hear expressed is a feeling of disconnect and loneliness. Visiting teaching isn’t the balm that heals all wounds – the Savior is – but it can go a long way towards relieving the aches and pains of every day. It is not a program - it is a principle, one where we uphold our covenant to "comfort those who stand in need of comforting." Please make it a priority.

Don't Miss this Special Opportunity! Women's General Auxiliary Meeting!

We hope you can join us for the upcoming Women's General Auxiliary Meeting on Saturday, May 17th!

For sisters in the RS, YW, and Primary presidencies, there will be a training from 2-5pm.

ALL sisters ages 12 and older are invited to attend a special fireside with the General Auxiliary leaders from 6:30-8pm at the Broomall building.

Come to be edified and uplifted as we join together to learn from the General Women's leaders of the Church!

**If you are able to provide rides to any of the young women whose mothers will already be at the stake center, please let a member of the RS presidency know. Thank you! **

Stop Hiding Your Light Under a Bushel!

Fill out a Talent and Interest Survey (available in Priesthood and Relief Society meetings) and turn it in to Bob Fultz. The survey fits many purposes – they help us plan activities, know who to call on to chainsaw a tree, and who not to ask to teach a cake decorating class.
We’re going to find out anyway, so why not take the opportunity to gain some control over the situation?
