Good Eats in New York

Sabrina asked...

Anybody know of good places to eat in New York City? Somewhere that has relatively decent prices, or it's more for the fun experience?

You answered...
We always go to Canal street and the garment district, but really the prices aren't that bad, about the same as here and there is also no tax.
Shake shack! It is a kiosk in Madison square park...there is a playground near by... It is so yummy with decent prices. The line can be long, but it is worth it

We love Carmines. We have been going there for years. Fun, family-style Italian.

There is a totally great pizza place called Angelos that is really authentic NY pizza. I know there is one near Central Park (and the temple), but I believe there is another location too.

We always enjoy Planet Hollywood.

Church to Restore Historic Site in PA...near us!

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will restore a historic site in Pennsylvania that played a significant role in the growth of the Church from humble beginnings to a worldwide faith with 14 million members.
Formerly known as the town of Harmony, the site is in Oakland Township in Pennsylvania near the present-day town of Susquehanna.

Cyberspace Missionary Work

“Why bother with all this internet stuff. It just soaks up my time and offers danger around every corner. It's evil.”

Have you heard someone say this (I have!) and maybe even thought so yourself? Then you are missing the fact that the internet can be a powerful tool for the Lord's work.

Ever since the now famous talk by Elder Ballard urging participation in internet conversations more and more good information about the church is being published by ordinary members like you and me. You can join in too. Start a blog or comment and share your testimony on other blogs. He said,
Gradually, accurate and positive information is rising to the top of lists generated by various search engines. Those seeking information are more likely to encounter accurate information today than at any time since the Internet began, even though we still have a long way to go.
So let me pose a question. What are you prepared to do about it? If you are a member of the Church, what is your responsibility during this period of unusual attention and debate? Interest has continued at a high level and probably will for some time. If a national conversation is going on about the Church, are you going to be an active participant or a silent observer?
(Get the full transcript here.)

Here are a couple ideas of how others are doing it and how you can get involved.

All About Mormons
Strives to answer questions posed by investigators and less-active members, hoping to “dispel some of the many misconceptions about the church and its members.”

Site author/administrator Jacob Durrant explains: “When someone buys a car, they usually want to read the manual and other specs provided by the manufacturer. That’s why there will always be a role for official church websites like mormon.org. However, when buying a car, many people also talk with friends who already own the same car. That’s why it’s so important that we as members voice our opinions, ideas and feelings on the Internet. We can serve as important ‘non-authoritative sources.’” And Durrant is quick to link to the authoritative sources throughout the site.

It is offered in Portuguese, Spanish and Italian so it can reach a wider audience.

You can volunteer to help with this site.

ldsWebGuy
Need help understanding how to use the web to build The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? Here’s a blog by Larry Richman, director of Internet and project coordination for the church’s Curriculum Department.

Typical topics include wise use of the Web and other media; ideas for using new technology to build families, strengthen faith in Jesus Christ, and share the message of His restored gospel; tips on creating great Web sites and blogs; using social networks; how to keep your family safe on the Internet; how to use other kinds of media in productive ways.

Ward Members on a Google Map

Did you know there is a ward Google map showing where ward members live?

It was set up some time ago for convenience in finding your home teaching or visiting teaching families.

If you have a Gmail account you can save it to My Maps for easy reference in the future.

It's not quite up-to-date but we are working on it. Check it out and if your name is missing let us know.

Thanks,
Devon

Get in the Christmas spirit...

1. Start a new tradition this year:
'Tis the season for traditions, like Wanamaker's light show, Dickens Village and Longwood Gardens at Christmas.

2. Dust off the instruments or join with others to celebrate through music:

Dear Ward,
Our Christmas Sacrament meeting is coming up. On December 20th we will be having a sacrament meeting of Christmas Musical Numbers. We are looking for solos, duos, trios, small group, or large groups. It can be your family preforming or a mixture of ward members.

If you are willing to play an instrument or sing please email me and let me know who is involved and what song you would be preforming.

Your support and involvement will make this Sunday special and one to remember. Thank you.

See Temple Square in 3D!

If you've never been there, or even if you have, you've got to see this.

Just click with the mouse and scroll up, down, side to side to get a 360 degree look at this and other places around Utah. Included are the tabernacle, assembly hall, Christus rotunda and the Christmas lights on Temple Square.

There are more links on the left to Zion National Park, St. George Tabernacle and the red-rock country.

My favorite is the Summer Night Sky. You just don't see stars like that here in the east.
